Express Police Supply order arrived - 8 months later
 

Back in early March I ordered some ammo from Express Police Supply when they were having a sale on Winchester Ranger ammo. I know lots of other Gimmers did the same.

A couple boxes of .40, a couple boxes of .45, a couple boxes of 9mm +P+ and a couple of 12ga buckshot.

The order arrived in 4 different shipments over the last 8 months. With the last 2 boxes arriving this week. Just shy of 8 months from the day I ordered it.

I know supplies have been tight but ____________________________________
[insert long line of expletives here]

Maybe they shouldn't sell stuff they don't have.

Did they bill you for the goods 8 months ago or when each individual item shipped?

If up front why wouldn't you charge that shit back with the CC company?

They billed my CC for each item as it was shipped. I was billed for a single shipping charge while they ended up shipping 4 packages. Not to profitable I'm sure.

Seems clear to me they were taking orders for items they did not have and intended to order in enough stock to cover the orders. This was certainly not mentioned on the website.

Poor business practice at best and now they have lots of pissed off customers.

Most internet based businesses do not stock merchandise at all, or only a small amount. They're selling inventory they have access to. Larger companies use drop-shipped items from their wholesalers and use technologies like EDI to process their orders.

Thats the reason mail order is so cheap compared to brick and mortar (its not just the retail store / personel that cost money, its the merchandise they stock in their warehouses).

That being said, they all have access to the stock availability 'in the channel' so they know when something is low on inventory or just plain doesnt exist. A good company will use that information to post a 'backordered' or 'may be a shipping delay' flag in their transaction pages....


IMO: Selling what you dont have is OK as long as you know its available and you can get it, especially if you can lock it up on the fly with your distributor. Selling what you dont have when you have no idea when or if you'll ever be able to complete the transaction is very dishonest.

More importantly, did they charge him the price from April, or the current price - 20-40% higher - now?

I wouldn't complain. Be glad they honored the order from so long ago. I have pending orders that I'm willing to wait for, since the market rate will be higher if I ordered it when it ships.
